Melbourne Burwood Campus at a glance
- Burwood is a very leafy suburb with many open spaces and parks. The campus sits alongside parkland, which is great for cycling and walks.
- The Melbourne Burwood Campus is our busiest campus, with around 26,000 students and 1500 staff.
- The campus boasts architecturally impressive buildings and top-notch facilities for every faculty.
The most direct journey to the Melbourne Burwood Campus is by tram: the #75 tram stops right out the front! (Stop #63 Deakin University/Burwood Highway).
Public bus services
There are multiple bus routes that travel directly past the campus, including route 281 which stops inside the campus.
A Deakin shuttle bus – route 201 – provides high frequency services from Box Hill bus port and train station.
The closest major train station and transport hub to the Melbourne Burwood Campus is Box Hill. Burwood station on the Alamein line and Jordanville station on the Glen Waverley line are also close by.
To use trams, trains and buses around Melbourne you'll need to buy a Myki card. Myki cards are very easy to use – just top up credit or buy a pass at a shop or station, then touch-on once you've boarded the tram or bus, or touch-on and off to get through the barriers at train stations.
There are many bike trails surrounding the campus, so commuting on your bike is definitely an option.
On campus you'll find plenty of showers, change rooms, bike racks, lockers and a secure bicycle cage.
It's approximately a 30-minute drive from Melbourne's CBD to our campus in Burwood, depending on traffic.
- From the CBD join the Monash Freeway (M1)
- Take the Burke Road exit
- Turn right at Toorak Road and follow it for about 10 minutes
- Toorak Road becomes Burwood Highway and you'll see Deakin University on the left
There are quite a few car parks available on campus but they fill up quickly – especially at the start of Trimester 1 and 2. If you visit campus regularly, you might want to buy a parking permit.
Finding your way around
Most of our buildings are wheelchair-accessible and have lifts, accessible toilets and automatic doors.
Shopping and food
We make shopping straightforward, with all our campuses kitted out with a range of amenities for purchase. Whether it's for breakfast, lunch or dinner, there are plenty of great venues catering for everyone including vegetarians and those on special diets.
Health and wellbeing services
Your health and wellbeing is important to us and there are a range of services available to you.
A huge amount of resources, helpful staff and a great space to study. You're welcome to use the library even if you're not a student or staff member.
Our on-site childcare centre is open to children of staff, students and families in the local area.
We have a vibrant exhibition program and run regular arts events for students, staff and the local community.
